In my search for a more sustainable approach, I discovered Yakisugi (often referred to as Shou Sugi Ban in the US) —the traditional Japanese technique of charring wood to naturally preserve and protect it. This centuries-old method brings out the wood’s inherent beauty while eliminating the need for toxic coatings and ongoing maintenance.

 

Inspired by its durability, aesthetic richness, and ecological sensibility, we began producing Yakisugi locally in Arlington, Washington, Utilizing NW sourced Western Red Cedar
